Types of Lighting

Types of Lighting
Interior lighting is referred to as being either ambient (general) lighting or task (specific) lighting and comes from three different sources.

Natural lighting
Daylight enters through windows, doors and skylights and depending upon the orientation of these, the time of day, the season, and the weather, natural light can have a gentle or harsh effect. Natural lighting is primarily ambient, though it can be sufficient for daytime tasks near a window.

Artificial ambient lighting
Creating soft ambient lighting requires careful planning and positioning of light fittings.
Try to avoid high contrasts from one area to another. Using several light sources (fittings) is preferable to just one light fitting.
Dimmer switches provide control and flexibility.

Accent & artificial task lighting
Whether emitted from individual pendants, floor, table spot, track, under cabinet, strip lights, task lighting focuses light on areas where vision will be
concentrated-on work surfaces, at a bedside or in reading areas. Use smaller accent lights to illuminate books, display shelves or artwork.
